Couples planning on holding their weddings in Jamaica must make prior arrangements for a marriage license, which costs 200 Jamaican dollars (about 5-6$ U.S.). This can either be done before arriving at the island by phone or in person at the Ministry of National Security. With a valid license, a couple only needs to be on the island for 24 hours before they are allowed to get married and officials to preside over weddings in Jamaica are fairly easy to find. No blood tests are required, however, officials will ask for a certified copy of a birth certificate, proof of divorce or death of spouse where applicable, and written parental consent for those under 18 years of age. Special regulations apply for Italian nationals, as well as French Canadians, who must have all of their documents translated and notarized.
